 Bike Maintenance and Beyond 

This workshop is typically 3-4 days long, spread out over a few weeks, or back-to-back days. 

Each class is approximately 2.5 hours long and includes group activities, maintenance lessons, hands-on bike repair time and discussions. ​

You will learn:
  • Bike lingo and anatomy so that you can communicate effectively in bike shops
  • How to do a safety check before you go on a ride
  • How to remove wheels and change a flat tire 
  • Chain maintenance, including how to lubricate your chain and check it for wear
  • How to adjust and replace brake pads
  • How cables and shifting systems work
  • Bike fitting for your unique body (everything from choosing a comfortable saddle to how to choose a bike that fits you perfectly)

Tuition starts at $70 and tuition assistance is always available by request.

Tools, some parts and snacks are provided.

Bring your own bike or work on a bike with a partner.

During a longer workshop you may also learn:
  • How to adjust derailleurs
  • To adjust and install stems
  • How to build your bike from a box
  • The inner workings of bottom brackets, headsets and hubs

Discussion topics vary by class interest. They may include: 
  • Bike gear for fair or foul weather
  • The abridged history of women and bikes
  • Road riding safety and tips
  • Bike culture (racing, commuting and recreational riding)
